Design and ManufactureThis course offers pupils the opportunity to solve problems through designing and manufacturing products. In doing this they will learn about design issues and how they have an impact on everyday products that they use. They will also learn how to generate designs of their own that are creative and unique as well as how to communicate these effectively. When manufacturing products they will gain experience and develop knowledge of hand tools, machines and manufacturing processes when working with wood, metal and plastic.

Core Skills
Pupils will develop a range of skills throughout the course including creativity, problem solving, analytical thinking and communication skills when designing. They will also develop practical skills when manufacturing products such as manual dexterity and control and spacial awareness. In addition to this pupils will also develop attributes such as perseverance, maturity, independence and self-confidence.
Course Assessment
All levels require the students to pass 3 units of work and then one final piece of work. for National 4 this is an Added Value Unit and for National 5, and Higher this is a course Assignment. Students doing National 5 and Higher will also have to sit an exam. Both the Course Assessment and the exam are weighted equally in providing the overall grade for the subject.
