National 4/5 Graphic Communication
National 4 & 5 Graphic Communication can be divided into 2 unit areas. 2D Drawings and 3D and Pictorial Drawings. This will involve students learning a mix of manual graphics and computer graphics to complete a variety of projects. The courses consist of 5 project; Graphic Design, Brand Identity, Engineering, Architecture and Interior Design within these projects the students take on a combined approach to learning the 2unit areas. These are delivered to National 5 level with the work being created determining the students actual level. Students who are National 4 will then finish the year completing an Added Value Unit which will be their assessment where as the National 5 will take on a different Added Value unit in the form of an assignment, this combined with an exam at the end of the year will provide them with their overall grade A-C.
Graphic Design PublicationStudents work in groups to produce a sample magazine they must present to a client group. Students have to select an unknown brief and then start reseraching their magazine genre, they are then expected to produce a pictograph explaining their research and the create a single page for their magazine based on tehir findings. Genres include: Music, Film, Health, Sport, Kids and Fashion.
Brand IdentityStudents work indiviually to create Logo for a company and then create some packaging for a range of their products. The logo and packaging must reflect the companies brand image and answer the specification set out for them. Students will be developing their own surface developments for this project.
EngineeringStudents have to develop preliminary, production and promotional drawings for one single item. They will be looking at Orthographic, Sectional and Assembly drawings in this project. This will involve both manual and computer generated drawings.
ArchitectureStudents will be building on previous work to add an extension on to a kitchen. This work will be created in AUTOcad and involve them using a CAD library of parts that they will make themselves.
Interior DesignStudents will be working in a group to produce a sample set of furniture deisgn proposals for boutique apartments across the North East of Scotland. These will be produced mainly by manual rendering to reveal texture shade and tone but may be digitally enhanced on the computer.
